What caused it?

Mechanical Knee Pain

  • Runner’s Knee (Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome): Common in athletes, it involves irritation of the cartilage beneath the kneecap.
  • IT Band Syndrome: Tightness can cause the ITB to rub against the outer knee joint, leading to pain.
  • Bursitis: Inflammation of the bursae (fluid-filled sacs) around the knee.
  • Arthritis: Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other types can lead to knee pain due to cartilage breakdown and joint inflammation.
  • Malalignment: Issues with the alignment of the knee joint, such as bow-legs or knock-knees, can lead to uneven stress on the knee.

Most Common Knee Injuries

  • Sprains and Strains
  • Fractures
  • Meniscus Tears: The meniscus is a cartilage in the knee; tears can happen from sudden twisting motions.
  • Ligament Tears: Injuries to the ACL, PCL, MCL, or LCL can result from sports or accidents.

How does it feel and how does it affect your life?

Knee pain can manifest as sharp or stabbing pain, throbbing, a burning sensation, stiffness, popping or clicking, swelling, locking or a radiating pain.

It often limits mobility, making everyday activities such as walking, climbing stairs, and even standing for extended periods challenging and painful.

The pain can also interfere with exercise and recreational activities, leading to reduced physical fitness and potential weight gain.
